NREC and Oshkosh Defense are adapting Cargo UGV to detect and clear explosives from convoy routes.

Several different counter-explosive technologies are being evaluated to see which ones work best with Cargo UGV autonomous convoy vehicles.  The ultimate goal is to remove drivers from one of the most dangerous places in a convoy: behind the wheel of a route clearance vehicle.

Funding for this project comes from the US Office of Naval Research (ONR) under its Force Protection thrust area. It is part of ONR’s SIAFU program, which is developing a “system of systems” that provides mobile, autonomous, multi-platform protection against explosives.
