NREC to host the ARM Institute
The U.S. Department of Defense has selected the Advanced Robotics Manufacturing (ARM) Institute for the Robotsin Manufacturing Environments Manufacturing Innovation Institute (RIME-MII) initiative. The ARM Institute, led byCarnegie Mellon University, is composed of dozens of premiere U.S. universities recognized for their leadership inrobotics and manufacturing research, and supported by over 200 industry partners, non-profit institutions, state andlocal governments, and manufacturing extension partnerships (MEP) across the nation.
During the initial phase of the program, the ARM Institute will be hosted at NREC, giving immediate access to world-class robotics R&D facilities and researchers to the many members of the ARM Institute. NREC, as the appliedRobotics R&D arm of CMU, is a natural partner for ARM, having a proven track record in both research andtechnology commercialization in the many research areas that ARM is chartered to innovate in. Working closely withARM will also enable NREC and its industry partners to stay at the forefront of the exciting robotics revolution inmanufacturing. Equally important to the technology development effort, NREC will also support ARM in the workforcedevelopment effort, to train the next generation of workforce to build, operate and maintain these advanced roboticsequipment.
NREC is proud to be part of this initiative that will shape the future of manufacturing in the United States.
